Armstrong Scholars Program

Inspired by former instructor Joie Armstrong, the Armstrong Scholars Program brings young women, ages 15 to 18, together for a summer backpacking adventure and educational experience in the spectacular High Sierra. This extraordinary program is offered in cooperation with our sister campus, Headlands Institute, and seeks to inspire young women to reach their highest potential and develop a stronger sense of self and community and a stronger connection to nature. Participants will venture into the High Sierra back country with our inspiring and highly skilled female instructors for a trip filled with beauty, learning and physical and mental challenge.
Through funding provided by the Joie Armstrong Memorial Fund, every participant will receive a $1,000 scholarship that covers all but $150 of the program fees. Twelve women will be chosen based on nominations by their educators and community leaders and the strength of their applications. Participation is limited to insure a quality experience for everyone involved.
