Group Coordinator Tools: Transportation
Highway 140 is strongly recommended during snow storms or stormy weather for groups that are using their own transportation. Unfortunately, Highway 140 is currently closed to buses as a result of a rockfall. If you have your own transportation, it provides the lowest elevation entrance into the park and should be considered as an alternative to Highways 41 and 120 during snow storms. This will add approximately 1 hour for groups planning to use Highways 41 or 120.
Autos must be prepared for winter travel between October 1 and the first week of June. Autos must be equipped with tire chains, antifreeze, a snow shovel, and a window scraper. Vehicles not carrying tire chains when park highways are under winter road restrictions will not be permitted to enter or leave the park. Be familiar with how to install chains.
