Organizing Your Trip

Curry Village Accommodations

Curry Village sits beneath Glacier Point on the east end of Yosemite Valley. It is a bustling, public facility with up to 628 guests at one time. Prepare your group for urban-like distractions in the village, such as retail and snack shops, traffic, and noise.

Alcohol is strictly prohibited for adult chaperones who are supervising any Yosemite Institute participants under age 21.

Sample Schedule

Schedules may vary slightly depending on weather, space availability, etc.

Chaperones are responsible for the supervision of students during all free time. Free time is available:

Lodging

If your group is staying overnight, Yosemite Institute must receive a rooming list at least 30 days before your program starts. We cannot guarantee that cabins will be available if you don’t submit this form on time.

Space is limited. Each cabin must house 4 people. Tuition is based on quadruple occupancy. Exceptions are only made for groups with an uneven gender ratio.

Curry Village staff makes every effort to keep entire groups together in one area, with chaperone cabins interspersed amongst the students’. Occasionally, they do not have blocks of cabins available, and groups are spread out. In either case, cabins often neighbor with the concessionaire, employees, and public. Groups will be assigned to tent cabins or hard-sided cabins, depending on the season.

Teaching groups scheduled for overnight programs at other park locations must room together while in Curry. This includes chaperones. Their cabins must be cleaned out when the group departs.

Linens
The following linens are provided:

Extra blankets are available at the registration desk. We strongly recommend participants bring sleeping bags.

Restrooms and showers
Restrooms are located conveniently throughout the cabin area. Showers are available at a centrally-located bathhouse. To ensure hot water for everyone onsite, please take short showers.

Tent cabins
Open in the fall and spring:

Tent cabins have 2-4 beds each, wooden floors and frames, and walls and ceilings of heavy-duty, waterproof canvas. Each of these cabins is equipped with a light, but not electrical outlets. They are not heated, so we strongly suggest bringing a sleeping bag.

Hard-sided cabins
Open the second week of October – end of March

Regular cabins are heated and have wooden floors, walls, and ceilings. They come with 2 double beds, to sleep 4 people total. For personal space while sharing a bed, we recommend bringing a sleeping bag.

Food Service

All participants will receive lunch out in the field. Participants staying at Curry Village will receive a plastic wristband which will give them access to the Curry Village Dining Pavilion for breakfast and dinner.

Food is served buffet style. Vegetarian dishes are always an option.  Seconds are available at no extra cost, so please do not waste food by taking too much initially.

Students are expected to respect all cafeteria personnel and other guests. They should clear their tables by taking plates, silverware, glasses, and trash to a bussing station. These stations are located throughout the dining area.

Telephone

Cell phone reception is not guaranteed in Curry Village. Many pay phones are available onsite.
