Olympic Park Institute Education Assistant

Summary

The Field Science Education Assistant position at Olympic Park Institute (OPI) is designed as an introductory educator position for those wishing to increase their experience in the field of environmental education and obtain full-time employment as a Field Science Educator. Education Assistants are expected to build the competencies required to excel at the role of Field Science Educator. This is a full time position reporting to the Field Science Program Manager. The Education Assistant's work season is February - April as Assistant, then April - June as Field Science Educator. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Observe field science educators in the field and eventually co-instruct
Partake in training and experiences necessary to prepare for the role of Field Science Educator
Act as support staff on the OPI campus
Develop an educational project with the Education Coordinator for staff development
Act in a responsible and respectful manner towards all OPI program participants, partner, staff, and the public
Take part in staff meetings, educational meetings and trainings, as assigned
Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from 4-year college or university and 1 -2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Current Wilderness First Aid and Heartsaver CPR certifications
Experience teaching in the outdoors
Ability to implement and model excellent risk management practices and maintain a safe environment for our students and visitors
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings
