Driving North on Hwy. 101 from San Francisco
- Drive across the Golden Gate Bridge
- Take the Alexander Avenue exit, the second exit after the bridge
- Make first left, approximately 1/10 of a mile from highway exit ramp
- This is Bunker Road
- Drive through tunnel
- Pass through a housing area with speed bumps
- Continue past horse stables
- Stay on Bunker Road as it curves below the old chapel
- After crossing lagoon, stay to the left going toward the beach on Mitchell Road
- Take the first right at sign for Headlands Institute
- Again take first right into the Headlands Institute's west parking lot
- Note: the first row of parking spaces are reserved for rangers

Driving South on Hwy. 101 in Marin County
- Take the second Sausalito exit, a half-mile past the Waldo Tunnel
- Turn right at stop sign and drive under highway
- Make first left, approximately 1/5 of a mile from highway exit ramp
- This is Bunker Road
- Drive through tunnel
- Pass through a housing area with speed bumps
- Continue past horse stables
- Stay on Bunker Road as it curves below the old chapel
- After crossing lagoon, stay to the left going toward the beach on Mitchell Road
- Take the first right at sign for Headlands Institute
- Again take first right into the Headlands Institute's west parking lot
- Note: the first row of parking spaces are reserved for rangers
