Partnerships
We work with our educational partners to create special, unique activities for our campers.
Park Partner
Headlands Institute is a Park Partner of the National Park Service and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, the park in which the institute resides. This public-private partnership enables both organizations to:
- Expand their educational and interpretive mission
- Provide educational programming to help children better understand the Marin Headland's rich natural and cultural history
- Enhance children's experience of the park
During Ocean Explorers and Tunnel Through Time, campers will go behind the scenes at the Point Bonita Lighthouse in the Marin Headlands.
Marine Educational Partner
Founded in 1975, The Marine Mammal Center (TMMC) is a nonprofit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and releases injured, sick, and orphaned marine mammals. Coastal Camp and TMMC's unique educational partnership supports activities designed to:
- Increase appreciation of marine mammals
- Foster informed decision-making affecting them
- Inspire action to protect the marine environment
During Extreme Marine Team, campers will work with TMMC marine mammal specialist to help rescue and rehabilitate a simulated stranded seal on Rodeo Beach and explore whale specimens, baleen, teeth, and bones in TMMC science lab.
During Eco Quest 08, campers will dissect a herring with the help of the experts at TMMC.
Music in Education Specialist
The Banana Slug String Band is committed to educational entertainment for children through interactive music and performance. They are dedicated to:
- Fostering positive attitudes about the environment
- Providing accurate information about natural history and science
- Promoting music appreciation
- Building self esteem in children
- Honoring creativity
- Supporting the arts in education
- Sparking in people a joyful sense of wonder
Coastal Camp is a strong supporter of the Slug's mission and incorporates their music, songs, and lyrics into daily, multidisciplinary activities including dance, sing-alongs, and puppetry.
