Sample Day of Training for Teachers and Educators

Participants go on a hike around the Marin Headlands led by an expert naturalist.9:47 a.m.

Beth, a high school teacher, hits the trail with her colleagues for a naturalist-led hike. On the route back, they will observe low tide. "As the tide goes down, hermit crabs are looking for new shells, and sea stars are hunting for meals. It gives you a sense of the individual's place within an ecosystem," Beth says.

11:15 a.m.

Tanya and her team practice non-verbal cues during the lighthouse challenge, a group-building game. Tanya plans to start the next school year with this activity. "It will help break down barriers, so my Participants enjoy the view of the Pacific from Point Bonita Lighthouse in the Marin Headlands.students can work better together," she says.

1:26 p.m.

After a few moments observing the marsh, Natalie notices a grasshopper on a piece of grass. Through her excitement, she's realizing the impact of today's theme, "The more you look the more you see."

3:25 p.m.

Mike, a state park interpreter, learned to build a microscope this morning in Headlands Institute's interactive learning lab. Now he is using his creation to study micro invertebrates from the pond.
