About Headlands Institute
Headlands Institute is a private nonprofit organization that offers environmental education opportunities and conference facilities in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area near San Francisco.

Our Impact
- Founded in 1977, each year Headlands Institute serves more than 20,000 people from diverse backgrounds.
- Our programs are designed to support state educational standards and to develop tomorrow's community leaders.
- Approximately 40% of participating schools have attended Headlands Institute for at least 15 years.
- Headlands Institute is an official educational partner of the National Park Service through its parent organization Yosemite National Institutes.
Our Operations
- We provide scholarships to 30% of students participating in our youth and school programs.
- We have 57 employees.
Awards Received
- Headlands Institute, through its parent organization Yosemite National Institutes, received the 2004 California Governor's Award for Environmental and Economic Leadership in Children's Education.
- Marin County has honored Headlands Institute as a Green Business. This certification recognizes Headlands Institute for conserving energy, water, and materials; preventing pollution and waste generation; and sharing environmentally sound practices with other businesses.
Our Parent Organization
Founded in 1971, Yosemite National Institutes (YNI) provides environmental education opportunities and conference facilities in three national parks. In addition to Headlands Institute, YNI includes Olympic Park Institute in Washington on the Olympic Peninsula and Yosemite Institute in Yosemite National Park.
