A Bay Area education & conference center

Located just north of San Francisco in the beautiful Golden Gate National Recreation Area, we partner with the National Park Service to provide residential environmental science education for students and educators, teen leadership programs, summer day camps for kids, and conference and retreat facilities.

School and Group Programs
School and Group Programs

Since 1977, we have provided residential environmental science education programs for K-12 school groups. Each year, over 10,000 students participate in our award-winning programs which are experiential, inquiry-based, and aligned with state education standards.

Adult Education Programs
Adult Education Programs

Our residential Environmental Educators Training Program provides teachers and non-traditional educators with skills to create inquiry-based and hands-on curriculum for students. The program has been presented in partnership with the National Park Service since 1997.

Summer Day Camp
Summer Day Camp

Coastal Camp at Headlands Institute is the place where play and education meet. Campers entering grades 1 - 6 come to Coastal Camp to laugh, play, explore, and discover. Our camp combines marine and coastal ecology themes with fun and educational hands-on activities.

Teen Programs

TEAM
The Teen Environmental Action Mentorship (TEAM) program is a year-long leadership program for high school students in San Francisco, Richmond, East Palo Alto, and Marin County.

Youth Quest
Each spring, we host a weekend environmental conference for teens. Workshops are led by high school students for their peers. Students also participate in stewardship projects in the park.
